Black Rock are set to take on South Yarra away at Fritsch Holzer Park (Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn) this Saturday. The match shapes as the most important of the season for the two teams. Both sides are winless so far in both the Seniors and Reserves. There is talk that only one side will be relegated from Division 2 this season, so a Senior win to either side will be a major boost in the quest to avoid demotion. Fritsch Holzer Park is a uniquely sized ground and the Rockers will have to learn fast to overcome South Yarra’s local knowledge.

Black Rock seniors had their best showing of the year last week against Murrumbeena. While they still went down by 44 points, coach Simon Beshara was pleased that his side put in a sustained four quarter effort. Importantly, there were no major injuries to come out of that game, a rare occurrence in an injury plagued season. Consequently, there are only a few minor tweaks to the side this week, with Tom Dewar returning from a hamstring injury. Colin Wiltshire and Brad Meehan are two big names that are unavailable for the clash, but both a chance of returning in coming weeks.

The weather forecast is for showers to clear by the afternoon with only a light breeze, great conditions for footy! For such an important game, it is crucial that as many Black Rock supporters attend as possible.

Seniors and reserves will both be travelling to the ground together on a bus, everyone is to meet 930am at the club rooms.

Brighton Toyota Seniors Report
Saturday saw us back at home against the Beena, which was another test for us against a top side.

The big crowd was treated to a terrific fast game on a dry track. There was a 3-4 goal breeze favouring the far end, and whilst we did not take full toll of it, we were in the game and quarter time. Murrumbeena used the wind better in the second, but great defensive pressure saw us still pretty well placed at half time. The second half was pretty even and was a great game of footy. Our boys did not shirk an issue and can be proud of their efforts!

This week sees us out at Fritz Holzer against South Yarra. Massive stakes. Massive game.

Best players this week for the mighty Rockers were Corey Durie, Nick and Sam Jewell, Cooper Ferries, Sean Harris and Dave Dewar

The twos faced a big challenge against Murrumbeena, but put their head over the ball and fought really hard.

We have a massive chance to record two wins next week.

Best players included Jacob McMahon, Darcy O’Brien, Ben Whiting, Aaron Bice, Alexander Forbes, and Lucas HandleyUrchin Club

The big crowd was treated to a terrific opening by our boys. Saturday saw us up against our long standing and traditional rivals, Hampton.

The big crowd was treated to a fast track in warm weather. Hampton was on song from the start and being goal less at half time hurt. We reloaded and were much more competitive after the long break, but the dam age had been done.

To fall like that against the Hammers must stick in our guts until the return game.

Best players this week for the mighty Rockers were “Teen Wolf” Spratt, Corie Durie, Dave Dewar, John Camfield, Cooper Ferries and Martin Watson. Our journey continues down at Skye Next week.

Bendigo Bank Beaumaris Reserves Report
The twos did a terrific job and led for all but the last 10 minutes. With purpose and preparedness to do the hard work, we will learn plenty. The twos show a willingness to learn and put their head over the ball, fight hard and get close to a win.

Best players included Matt Foster, Brad “Muppet” Nopper, Lethal Leigh Jones and Lucas Handley

After being overrun in round one it was a similar story for Black Rock in round two, going down to a very strong Bentleigh side. It was an even contest in the first half with Sean Harris and Corey Durie the standouts. A lapse in concentration early in the third quarter was costly for the Rockers and the 14 goal to nil second half will need to be rectified during the week. Last week I wrote Hampton off and although they didn’t secure the four points, they showed they’re not a team that can be taken lightly. It was Hampton’s younger brigade that stood out on the weekend with Ryan Pearce and Jake Simon provided some strong performances and some hope. With both sides yet to open their account for the season, this match looms as a very important one for both sides. A win to either side will keep them in touch with the top four, while a loss would put that side in relegation trouble early in the season. After a much improved performance in round two, Hampton may go into this match favourites however with Black Rock back on their home ground for the first time this year and the Jewell brothers, Sam and Nick finding some good form, expect the Rockers to get over the line in what should be a belter of a match. Black Rock by 19 points.
